Authorised Economic Operator application C117 and Self-Assessment questionnaire C118 (CIP8/2019)
Find out about making the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) application an electronic form.
HMRC is committed to making the AEO application an electronic form. As a result of this you will be able to apply for AEO online.
The forms will still be C117 and C118. The C118 will have separate links for each of the sections.
How to apply
To apply online you will need a Government Gateway user ID and password. If you do not have a user ID, you can create one when you apply online.
Information needed for your application is available on the same page as the forms.
We suggest you use this and the accompanying explanatory notes as a self-assessment tool to gauge your readiness to apply for AEO.
You will be able to save a partially completed application and questionnaire for 28 days, starting from when you select the first link. However we recommend that you only start to complete the forms when you have all the information available.
It is a legal requirement to submit the application form and all parts of the Self-assessment questionnaire together. Failure to do so will mean your AEOapplication will not be accepted.
When you are ready, you must submit all forms within 24 hours. From the time that you submit the first section of your application, you’ll have 24 hours to submit all of the remaining relevant sections.
Please do not send any additional information unless it has been specifically requested.
When you apply for AEO on line you will receive a reference number once your application has been accepted.
Changes to forms
To aid information gathering and remove duplication minor amendments have been made to the C117 and C118 forms.
From 31 May 2019 the AEO Central Site will no longer accept any previous versions of C117 and C118.
